YLE

Yle is a series of translated Greek poetry collections, featuring the works of queer women writing about women and lesbian identity. Through first time translations, Yle aims to elevate community poets and works that are cast to the margins of their home culture.

Poetry has historically been considered the main literary product of Greece, but most Greek poetry translations that exist in the Anglophone world are older works written by men. The current under-translation of Greek titles further hinders the possibilities of new voices being represented, let alone works by lesbian and non-binary writers.

Rather than reproducing a minor culture’s heteronormativity in translation, Yle aims to introduce new visions of Greek poetry. From Sappho to contemporary lesbian poetics, this series crafts a collective space where queer texts can exist in dynamic relation to each other.
